My Three Favorite Blogs of The Semester.

1. Movie vs. Book. This is one of my favorite assignments, because watching the movie answered some questions that I had after reading the book. Actually both the movie and the book, filled in voids for each source. This was a favorite because I really enjoyed reading, The Handmaid's Tale.

2. What do I know about poetry? This assignment forced me to step outside of my comfort zone. It's really hard to write about something that doesn't really hold any interest. I've always enjoyed writing about subjects that I'm passionate about. Poetry can be really hard to understand, and then having to write about it is
definitely challenging. I also enjoyed finding pictures and links for this post.

3. My thoughts on "The necessity to speak." Looking back on my assignments, I think this was my favorite. The subject matter of abuse really sparked my interest. I found that it was easy to write about women and abuse, this subject is something that I'm passionate about and I have a strong opinion about. The video that I posted on this blog was heart wrenching. I enjoyed doing the research for this post!

My Reflection on English 102.

My Reflection
As I look back over this past semester, In English 102, I can honestly say that I’ve learned a lot. Not only have I learned about writing skills, but I also learned a great deal about myself.
When the semester started in late August 2010, I was really intimidated by the thought of using a webcam for this class. When I first bought one, I had assumed that it came with a built in microphone, it didn’t. I returned the webcam and bought one with the microphone. My assignment was to film an introductory video with the webcam, and post it on my blog. I was so embarrassed by the quality of the video, and frustrated that I inadvertently erased it from my blog. All that work, and my Professor never saw the video prior to my deleting it from the blog.
Setting up the blog was also a challenge. In fact, I was so stressed one day that I was actually thinking about dropping the class. I’m glad now that I didn’t drop this class; the blog is actually a great spot to post writings. I can’t say that I’ve mastered the blog one hundred percent, but I know enough to post writings, links, pictures, and my most recent post which was a power point presentation.
Writing about the poems that I read in this class was a little challenging. I enjoy
reading poems, a lot of them are hard to understand, which makes writing about them almost impossible.
I really enjoyed reading The Things They Carried, by Tim O’Brien. As I’ve said before, I have always had a fascination with the Vietnam War ( this wasn’t taught to me in High School), and I really like his style of writing, In fact I hope to read some of his other books over Christmas break. My favorite story in O’Brien’s book was, Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong. That story makes me wonder if anything like that really happened (a soldier flying his girlfriend over to Vietnam). I’ve thought that this story would make a great movie.
Reading Sean Huze’s play, The Sand Storm, was interesting; this was the first play that I’ve ever read. Like most wars, this fight in Iraq is so senseless.
The last book that I read for this class was, The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. The idea behind this book is really scary. I enjoyed researching and writing about the comparisons between both totalitarian societies of North Korea and The Republic of Gilead. I learned a great deal about North Korea from researching this subject matter. After reading The Handmaid’s Tale, I found that I was left with questions about some of the occurrences in the book. My questions were answered after watching the movie, for the extra credit assignment.
I feel like I’ve learned to write better. I realize there is punctuation issues that I still need to work on. I was forced to write out of my comfort zone, I now understand the necessity of learning “To step out of the box” for this second English Composition Class. For this I thank my Professor.
